One of the nation's most historic routes, the trail was blazed by the legendary frontiersman in 1775 and has become the route for hundreds of thousands of settlers of the western frontier. The driving tour follows the Wilderness Trail to Cumberland Gap as closely as possible.

Crab Orchard Museum preserves the cultural heritage of the Appalachian Region with exhibits on the 500 year-old Native American Village discovered on site, Pioneer Life, and military conflicts, such as the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.

See the animals of Southwest Virginia, such as the turkey, black bear, and Bald Eagle, along with the infamous "varmint," a coyote credited with killing 410 sheep in the 1950s. Look for prehistoric fossils, colonial maps, coal mining and farm tools too.

Fourteen log cabins from the 1800s show what daily life was once like in the "wild, wild west." Horse-drawn carriages, hearse, McCormick farm equipment and Model T are featured in the Red Barn.

Gift Shop sells hand-made crafts, old-fashioned toys, distinctive books, snacks and souvenirs.
