The 35th annual event is being held the second Saturday in September in downtown Bluefield, VA. Vendors set up with crafts, food, and fun. Music ,events and rides for big and small, a Classic Car Show, 5K Deer Walk/Run are just a few of the activities that day.
Other Special Events During the Day Include: 3-D Archery Shoot & Black Powder Shoot-off 8 to Noon at Graham Rec. Park, Apple Butter at Ebenezer Methodist Church, Cake Walk, Tractor Hay Ride, Art Contest, Essay Contest, Bingo for Cancer & Drug Abuse, & Amateur Photography Contest.
Fireworks concludes the events at 9:30 pm.

Held annually the second Saturday in September, this festival honors the lives of two local extraordinary musicians –banjoist Moran Lea "Dock" Boggs and ballad singer and songwriter Kate O’Neill Peters Sturgill. Dock Boggs was one of the truly great American folk musicians of the twentieth century.
The festival offers well-known local, regional, and nationally-known traditional musicians and dancers, as well as handmade mountain arts and crafts and home-cooked mountain foods.

Clinch River Mandolin Festival & Contest - More Info

The town of St. Paul, VA, is only 35 minutes (on easy four-lane roads) from I- 81 (exit 14) at Abingdon, VA. On Saturday, September 27, 2014 (rain or shine), the town will sponsor an all-day festival immediately next to the pristine, tree-lined Clinch River, called "America's Crown Jewel" by the Nature Conservancy.
The CLINCH RIVER MANDOLIN FESTIVAL AND CONTEST includes an evening open-air (bring lawn chairs) concert by the band Grasstowne (grasstowne.com), with mandolinist Alan Bibey, plus festival foods/vendors; a mandolin player workshop (for a fee -- limited numbers); and unplanned jams.
There will be an acoustic (any nonelectric instrument) "open microphone" on stage for preteens only; a nice playground, new handicapped toilets, a bluegrass miniconcert (band TBA) for ATV drivers on the 70-mile Mountain View trail daytime(spearheadtrails.com), a pre-concert band performance that evening, etc.. The Clinch is great for kayaking, fishing, etc. (boat rentals and ATV rentals are available).
The bluegrass/old timey mandolin CONTEST will be during the day and Mr. Bibey will be a judge.
THIS IS JUST A GREAT SMALL TOWN EVENT DONE BY TALENTED LOCAL PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEIR TOWN.
