Held annually the second Saturday in September, this festival honors the lives of two local extraordinary musicians –banjoist Moran Lea "Dock" Boggs and ballad singer and songwriter Kate O’Neill Peters Sturgill. Dock Boggs was one of the truly great American folk musicians of the twentieth century.
The festival offers well-known local, regional, and nationally-known traditional musicians and dancers, as well as handmade mountain arts and crafts and home-cooked mountain foods.

The Town of Gate City is home to the Annual Grillin at the Gate festival!! The event will feature live music from rock to bluegrass, so there's a musical style for everyone to enjoy! There may even be an Elvis sighting! Little grillers will have the opportunity to enjoy Piglet's Corner which will be full of children's events to please the entire family.
Now, let's talk about some good healthy competition! BBQ vendors from around our region will battle it out for their chance to be "Best of" four categories: chicken, ribs, pork and sauce in order to win the coveted cleaver trophy! Various food vendors will be set up as well, so if BBQ isn't your think, we've got you covered! This year, Wild Game category has been added to the competition!
A Beer Garden will be designated with breweries from around the region in a specific location during the festival with drink limits and security.

The annual Cedar Bluff Heritage Festival has an exciting line-up of musical performances that will entertain festival goers from three stages, and many artists, craftsmen, antique dealers and food vendors will fill the historic downtown area. Cedar Bluff will begin the celebration on Friday evening before the festival with bluegrass music featuring BLUESTONE, food, and a Corn Hole Tournament, all located at the Cedar Bluff Fire Station on Cedar Valley Drive. Friday evening festivities at the Fire Station (September 19th) begin at 6:00 p.m. The 2014 festival will highlight the rich heritage of Cedar Bluff with a Civil War encampment , horse and carriage tours of the historic district, and an Antique Car Parade. Always the third Saturday in September, the Cedar Bluff Heritage Festival attracts approximately twenty thousand visitors and 200 vendors each year. Vendors are encouraged to register now to obtain exhibit space. Sit back, relax and enjoy the sweet sounds of the Mandolin. Whether you join the jam, take a lesson, enter the Competition or enjoy the foot-stomping, award-winning performance of Grammy nominated Grasstowne, come celebrate a full day of musical fun in the mountains on the banks of the scenic Clinch River.
Stringed instrument workshops for beginners-intermediate-advanced players, Shaped Note Singing and jams throughout the day in addition to the Competition – judged by famed Alan Bibey. After the judging, the Grasstowne Concert begins!
Food/craft vendors will be on site and a Wine & Beer Garden for adults from 2-10 pm. Kids, the park has been completely renovated with a great playground and the Clinch River Skateboard Park is open.
