On Saturday, December 16th from 10am-5pm, multiple award winning wood carver Jeff Bailey will lead an intermediate - advanced wood carving workshop at Appalachian Arts Center. Mr. Bailey specializes in miniature and caricature wood carvings. The cost of the workshop is $45, and students will receive instruction on how to carve either a Santa ornament, or a free standing Santa (pictured below and/or attached.) Basswood ornament blanks will be for sale the day of the class at 2 for $5, and/or a basswood rough out for the free standing Santa may be purchased for $15. Participants should bring their own tools to class, or they may be purchased at the workshop.
There is space for 10 students, and participants will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment must be received in advance of the start of class to hold the spot. Appalachian Arts Center, a part of Southwest Virginia Community College, is located on Route 19 in the ‘Old Archie Helton Store’ - 2.5 miles south of Claypool Hill.
