The 2019 High Knob Music Festival will be held on Saturday, June 15, at the High Knob Recreation Area in the Jefferson National Forest, outside of Norton, Virginia. The event will start at 11:00 AM go until 7:30 PM. The festival is free to the public. The National Forest Service requires a $3.00 per car “amenity fee” to park inside the recreation area. You can also park outside the area and ride a shuttle. We kindly ask that you bring 3 can food products to donate to the local food bank.
The festival is in it’s 6th year growing from a small group of musicians playing for and with each other to an all day event featuring both local and regional artist showcasing their talents and unique styles of music.
This years line-up offers the following artists:
Beginning at 11:00 AM, there will be a veteran’s memorial and tunes from the bagpipe with ● "Randy Stanley and friends."
●“Miss Ellie String Band”, a very talented local group of young women will kick off the music with some sweet, traditional tunes and harmonies. Formed in 2017, band members have been students at MECC’s Mountain Music School and Wise and Scott Junior Appalachian Musicians Programs. They have been playing at prestigious festivals and events for some time and we look forward to hearing them on the mountain.
The next band to take the stage is Tri-Cities’ based,
● “My New Favorites”. We can’t wait to hear them rock the crowd with anything from old tunes to some “hillbilly and gypsy jazz”. Their motto is, “Music should have no boundaries. We want to travel wherever our spirits and abilities take us.”
● "Sigean" brings a taste of old traditional Irish music to the stage next with a lively combination of string, flute, and percussion. Sigean says they are, providing quality traditional music for their fans and, of course, keep the Guinness and whiskey distillers in business.” Get ready to dance!
Next up is a band with rising popularity in the region, ●“Wyldheart”. Keep those dancing shoes on....you’re gonna need them for some high energy rock with these guys. They keep regional venues and festivals hopping throughout the year!
Our 2019 headliner is ●“Southern Rebellion”. Previous winner of Appalachian Fair Battle of the Bands, Tri-City based “Southern Rebellion.” Pay attention; this band is up and coming. They are quickly rising to stardom , having sold and streamed their music in over 40 countries just last year. Besides headlining “Thunder in the Smokies” last year and opening for numerous Nashville recording artists, they will be headliner at this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Savanah, GA and I am told it is the largest parade on Earth.
We hope to see you on the mountain June 15, for a fun filled day of music.
