Foxtail Orchards Cabins & Campground

The Ratliff family founded Foxtail Orchards Cabins & Campground.  Matthew Ratliff, owner, was lifelong friend and coworker of Trooper Andrew D.Fox.  Trooper Fox was killed in the line of duty on October 5, 2012 . Not only is the campground named after Trooper Fox, but their first cabin, opened on June 28, 2016 is “The Fox Den”. It is adorned with memorabilia that pays homage to his life. The subsequent camp sites are to be named after other fallen officers. The devastating loss of Trooper Fox hit this community hard. The Ratliff family and the rest of Tazewell County keep his memory alive and continue to pay respects to others officers who have given their lives in service to their communities.

The campground and cabins are located in beautiful Thompson Valley which is the gateway to Back of the Dragon! on Route 16. Another convenience of the campground is it is less than two miles from Thompson Valley Grocery. Fisher and Company, a restaurant rated as having the best BBQ around, is just a few minutes away as is Plum Creek Winery.  There will be 10 primitive tent sites opening Spring 2017.
