Pocahontas Exhibition Mine & Museum

The Pocahontas Exhibition Coal Mine and Museum opened in 1938. It is the oldest attraction of its kind and designated as a National Historic Landmark. The site is part of the renowned Pocahontas Coal Fields. The original coal mine opened in 1882 and 44 million tons of coal were mined before it closed in 1955. It had a 13 foot coal seam and was the chosen fuel of the American Navy for two world wars.  Adjacent to the Coal Mine is Virginia’s Official Coal Heritage Museum (location of the original Power House), Gift Shop, and Educational Room.

This must see historical site is only a twenty minute drive from Bluefield, Virginia over Route 102.   

Admission is $10 Adults; $8.50 Children ages 6-12; Children under 6 free – Group Tour Discounts – AAA Discounts – Group Night Tours available.

The mine is closed during the winter months and opens in the spring.  Please call for open dates and hours of operation.
