the Heart of Appalachia
the Heart of Appalachia
1. Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure
Whether you are looking for adventure or relaxation, you will find it at Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure. Connected to the Coal Canyon ATV trail system, Southern Gap is a thrill-seeker’s playground. If you are looking for a more relaxing getaway, check into your cabin, grab the binoculars, and venture out on foot or in your car to view the herds of elk that roam the countryside.
2. Breaks Interstate Park
Located within the Breaks Interstate Park, you will find lakefront cabins that lend themselves to tranquil evenings and front porch sitting. You can fill your days with numerous park activities, including hiking, biking, kayaking, paddle boating, and so much more. Visit the Rhododendron Restaurant on a misty mountain morning to enjoy a tasty meal while watching the veil of fog lift to reveal the 1650 ft gorge that is called the “Grand Canyon of the South”.
3. Natural Tunnel State Park
More than 850 feet long and 10 stories high, this “Eighth Wonder of the World” was naturally carved into the limestone ridge over thousands of years. It is truly a place of wonder, where the silence is deafening and the sheer rock faces that surround you are otherworldly. Hike from your cabin, located within the park, and descend by trail or by chairlift to the tunnel viewing platform, where an active rail line still emerges from the tunnel.
4. Foxtail Orchards
Located directly on Back of the Dragon, Foxtail Orchards offers cozy cabins with a personal touch. Watch the sunset sink low over the mountains at the end of the day, or drive into the nearby town of Tazewell for a true small town experience, with locally owned restaurants, brewery, shopping, and more.
5. Appalachian Mountain Cabins
Located in a beautiful mountain setting, Appalachian Mountain Cabins are only minutes away from hiking trails, wild cave tours, music venues, and seasonal guided kayaking tours on the Clinch River. The cabins are also adjacent to the Natural Tunnel State Park. If you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, look no more! Appalachian Mountain Cabins will offer you a relaxing and carefree getaway.
6. Knotty Poplar Cabins
Located near the Coal Canyon trail system, Knotty Poplar Cabins were built around the philosophy that ‘life was meant for good friends and great adventures”. These cabins are larger in size, allowing them to accommodate those great friends or family for a night or for a week.
