Welcome to the Heart of All Things Fun...

From High Knob, Flag Rock and Little Stony Falls to the Grand Canyon of the South, Breaks Interstate Park and Birch Knob, the possibilities for outdoor recreation and adventure are endless. Be it hiking, biking, climbing, paddling, fishing, or camping, there’s an abundance of natural beauty and wonder to explore in the Heart of Appalachia. Our friend, Brad Deel, offers a glimpse into our mountain wonderland in his latest video.

The Breaks canyon is home to many globally rare species and woodlands. It boasts beautiful scenery, unusual geology, and a robust history, yet its existence has been threatened throughout the past and it still faces an uncertain future. In addition to a world-class celebrity narrator, this film represents contributions from nearly a dozen professors from five different institutions. It features a rich selection of music produced by talented faculty from the world renowned Blue Grass, Old Time, and Country Music program at East Tennessee State University. It showcases an array of special effects produced by an Emmy Award nominated Motion Design artist. This film has also garnered support from the likes of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, and the Virginia Tourism Corporation, among others.  Like their Facebook Page @breaksfilm to keep up on screenings and other news.

Singer, Songwriter, Storyteller, and Heart of Appalachia native, Kaitlyn Baker, shares her love of the westernmost tip of Virginia.  Watch, listen, then come see for yourself. Let the Heart of Appalachia call YOU home… for a day, a week, or for a lifetime!  For a look behind the scenes of Kaitlyn’s video shoot and the locations she sings about, click here!
