Trail of the Lonesome Pine Outdoor Drama

The Trail of the Lonesome Pine Outdoor Drama is the “Official Outdoor Drama of Virginia.” Based on the novel by John Fox, Jr., it is one of the longest-running outdoor dramas in the country. With live music and folk dance, the drama is a cultural experience you won’t want to miss.

Set in Wise County, Virginia, at the turn of the 20th century, the drama tells the story of star-crossed lovers Jack and June. Their passionate affair is played out against a 30-year-old feud between two influential mountain families. The Tollivers and Falins wage their own war as industrialization and the outside world are beginning to reshape the region.

In 2023, the Trail of the Lonesome Pine Outdoor Drama celebrates its 60th anniversary. Opening weekend will be June 23 and 24. Performances will run Thursday, Friday, and Saturday through August 12, beginning nightly at 8 p.m.

The Trail of the Lonesome Pine Outdoor Drama’s 60th Anniversary Celebration will be held July 8 at 6 p.m.  MountainRose Vineyards in Wise will provide wine service before the show and during intermission. Enjoy a glass or share a bottle in the relaxing night air!
