Every Friday night, pickers of all levels and from throughout the Tri-Cities and Southwest Virginia descend upon the Allen Hicks Friday Night Jams. A converted basement garage at 1844 Bethel Road in Nickelsville, the Allen Hicks Jam is an affiliated member of The Crooked Road.

The earliest seeds for this jam began when loitering pickers started hanging around Allen Hick’s wood shop waiting to try out Allen’s handmade mandolins. From there, Allen has built one of the nicest jam gatherings in The Crooked Road region. “I just treat folks like I want to be treated”, he says. To handle the crowds, Allen added on to his shop, put in a professional sound system, permanent seating and has concessions to boot. Lots of excellent pickers like banjoist and Bluegrass radio DJ Millard Edwards have been known to frequent the jam and everyone enjoys the fellowship emanating from this very welcoming place.
