On Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 7:00 pm the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church will host a Jazz Service featuring world-renowned jazz musicians. The service will feature Matt Vance, saxophonist of Jacksonville, FL; Rick Simerly, trombonist of Elizabethton, TN; Jim Ketch, trumpeter of Chapel Hill, NC; Matt Kendrick, bassist of Winston-Salem, NC; and Alan Hall, drummer of Asheville, NC. The group will be led by Southwest Virginia Community College’s and Lebanon UMC’s own, Dr. Joseph Trivette. “When these guys get together, the energy is fantastic,” states Trivette. “It will be an amazing service and a great opportunity for jazz aficionados and church-goers to hear some wonderful, Holy Spirit-filled music.” Musical selections for the service will include Dixieland hits like “Down by the Riverside,” “Amazing Grace ala All Blues,” and an up-tempo swing version of “Rock of Ages.” Community members of all ages are invited to attend this free Jazz service. For more info about the concert, you can call the church at 276-889-2721 or Joseph Trivette at Southwest at 276-964-7381.
